Recently, the results of the 9th Hubei Province University Student Japanese Essay Competition were announced. The competition was jointly organized by the Hubei Japanese Language Teaching Research Association and the Japanese Department of the School of Foreign Languages at Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
Thanks to the combined efforts of both faculty and students, graduate student Zhang Xiyou (Class of 2022) stood out and won the only first prize in the graduate group competition. Dai Weiwei (Class of 2022) and Shi Xinlu (Class of 2023) won third prizes.
In the undergraduate group competition, Yang Junjie (Class of 2021) won the first prize, Guo Zihui (Class of 2022) took the second prize, and five other students were awarded third prizes. Additionally, in order to commend the hard work of the Japanese foreign teacher, Mr. Hidetaka Kanda, the contest committee awarded him the title of "Outstanding Coach" in both the postgraduate group and the undergraduate group.

The competition, themed “The Potential of Japanese Language Learning in the AI Era”, ran from May to September 2024 and received a total of 219 submissions. After a rigorous review process, the final list of winners was selected. In addition to individual student awards, the Japanese Department also received the "Outstanding Group Award" and the "Outstanding Organization Award," marking a resounding success for the department.
The Party Branch Secretary Studio of the "Dual Leaders" in the Japanese Department focuses on improving teaching quality while promoting the development of teaching, forming a virtuous cycle of "Party building leading, one integration and double excellence". By organizing various forms of academic activities such as lectures, seminars and composition contests, it enhances students' sense of participation and sense of achievement. The excellent achievements obtained in the Hubei Provincial College Students' Japanese Composition Contest are precisely the manifestation of the strong academic atmosphere and remarkable effectiveness of the training mechanism in the Japanese Department. It also shows the phased achievements of the Japanese Department of our university as a first-class major construction site in Hubei Province.
