Youth power writes stories of civilizational exchange, painting a new chapter of international vision. To further advance our university’s international talent cultivation goals and develop high-quality individuals with global perspectives and international competitiveness, the School of Foreign Languages selected 10 outstanding students from across the university to form the 2024 Summer “Competency Program” Team. On July 22, the team embarked on a one-week overseas social practice activity in Tokyo, Japan.
Since 2022, the School of Foreign Languages’ “Competency Program” has aimed to gather exceptional students through an annual selection process. Leveraging international exchange and practice platforms, the program cultivates talents with “Chinese sentiment and global vision,” helping students broaden their international horizons, accumulate cross-cultural communication experience, and lay a solid foundation for future employment and participation in international competition.
During the practice and research period, team members visited Waseda University and the University of Tokyo. Under the guidance of experienced professors, they studied courses such as “International Finance and Asian Economic Situations.” They attended lectures by Professor Mihide Shiraki and Professor Ken Endo from Waseda University, as well as Professor Hiroyuki Katayama from the University of Tokyo. The professors shared insights on topics including Japan's labor market and human resource management in the era of remote work, the history and challenges of Japanese higher education, financial fundamentals, and global economic changes. The team members actively engaged in interactions and discussions, deepening their understanding of Japanese and global culture, education, and economy, and sparking profound reflections on global issues.
Beyond academic exploration, the team participated in rich cultural exchange activities. They visited universities such as Waseda University and the University of Tokyo, conversed with international peers, listened to the voices of youth, and gained in-depth knowledge of the academic environment and campus culture. They experienced teaching methods and student life firsthand. Team member Tang Lingxi from the School of Foreign Languages remarked, “This blend of theory and practice not only broadened my international perspective but also taught me respect and inclusiveness through cultural exchange. I will continue to view issues from a global perspective and strive to become an international foreign language talent.” Team member Hou Hanshuo from the School of Navigation shared, “This journey not only expanded my knowledge but also enhanced my cross-cultural communication skills. I will continue to improve myself and contribute to the international dissemination of Chinese culture.”
The School of Foreign Languages at Wuhan University of Technology is committed to cultivating high-level, international foreign language talents with a solid language foundation, broad international vision, and profound humanistic qualities, capable of serving national strategic needs. Through this overseas summer social practice, team members expanded their academic and international perspectives through lectures by renowned professors, developed innovative thinking and professional understanding through group project presentations, and enhanced cross-cultural communication awareness through study tours. This experience injected strong momentum into their personal growth and success.
