Department of Postgraduate English is one of the important teaching departments under the School of Foreign Languages. It is mainly responsible for the teaching of postgraduate English courses for more than 6,500 master's and doctoral students throughout the university, as well as some excellent undergraduate students trained under the "Undergraduate-Master-Doctor Integrated" program. Currently, it has 22 full-time teachers, including 6 with doctoral degrees, 16 with master's degrees, and 14 with senior professional titles, accounting for 63.6%. There are 13 teachers with overseas further education or study backgrounds, accounting for 59.1%.
Over the years, Department of Postgraduate English has adhered to implementing the postgraduate foreign language teaching quality project, centered on students, and continuously deepened teaching reforms, forming a public foreign language teaching system that is hierarchical, classified, personalized, and diversified. The teaching construction has been steadily promoted. It has published several coursebooks and built more than 10 university-level excellent postgraduate courses such as Academic English Reading and Writing, Academic English Communication, and Language Testing, which have been run for multiple rounds on platforms such as China University MOOC and Rain Classroom, accumulating rich experiences in online and offline blended teaching. Among them, 4 courses have been rated as university-level curriculum ideology and politics demonstration courses. By carrying out activities and competitions such as cultural education reading clubs, foreign language festivals, academic poster exhibitions, intercultural competence competitions, national English competitions, and the Translation & Interpreting Contest of Hubei Province, it actively guides students to improve their foreign language abilities and creates a strong English learning cultural atmosphere for students. The teachers in the department have devoted themselves to teaching and research, and have repeatedly won awards in many teaching competitions such as the Hubei Provincial Young Teachers' Teaching Competition and the Curriculum Ideology and Politics Micro-lesson Competition. In the past three years, it has obtained more than 20 project approvals, including projects from the Ministry of Education's humanities and social sciences program, postgraduate education and teaching reform research projects at all levels, independent innovation fund projects, curriculum resource database projects, and teaching case database research projects, and has published many academic papers. It has participated in international conferences many times and actively participated in interdisciplinary projects to improve the effectiveness of scientific research transformation. At the same time, in combination with the characteristics of our university, it actively assists in the conference translation for the 7th CISM Military World Games, the translation of academic conferences, periodicals, and professional materials in industries such as transportation, materials, and automobiles, serving the internationalization construction needs of the university and providing support for our university to create a "Double First-Class" status and promote the comprehensive reform pilot work of "Three All-Round Education".
