As one of the earliest higher institutions in the central region of China to establish the French program, the French Department at Wuhan University of Technology is staffed with a strong faculty who specialize in the five main disciplines of Language, Literature, Translation and Interpreting, Intercultural Communication, and Regional Studies. It also includes experts in foreign language teaching, economics and trade.
The French Department has always been dedicated to nurturing a high-quality faculty that is morally upright, professionally excellent, reasonably structured and fully dynamic. Currently, there are 15 full-time teaching and research staff,including 3 long-term foreign teachers. Among them, there are2 University-levelDistinguished Instructors for Premium Courses, 4 University-level Young Master Teachers, and 2 University-level Exemplary Individual in Teacher Ethics. All of the teachers are alumni of renowned institutions both domestically and internationally, and they have gained extensive experience in overseas studies or professional development.Our full-time faculty have been awarded 2 provincial- and ministerial-level projects, over 10 horizontal projects, and more than 20 university-level research or teaching projects. They have published 6 monographs, 12 translated works, over 20 textbooks, and over 50 papers in high-level journals. They have also been approved for6 University-levelExcellent Online Open Courses.
Emphasizing the internationalization of student training, the French Department has signed an international agreement on inter-university cooperation with the University of Lorraine in France. Students can apply in their junior year, and after obtaining exchange student qualifications, they can study in the Department of Applied Foreign Languages at the University of Lorraine during the first semester of their senior year. Additionally, the French Department has been authorized and certified to offer a Second-Level Discipline Master's Programs of French Language and Literature, providing opportunities for graduates with research aspirations to continue their studies.
Since its establishment in 1993, the French Department has prioritized talent cultivation, formulating cultivation standards that highlight the unique characteristics of French studies in thisscience and engineering university. It has pioneered a series of innovative approaches and educational concepts for curriculum development: in the first and secondyear stages when students are expected to lay solid foundation, classroom teaching focuses on stimulating interest and developing listening and speaking skills, ultimately achieving a comprehensive enhancement of all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing; in the third and fourth years, the focus shifts to cultivating students' abilities to analyze, think and transfer knowledge, thereby elevating their critical thinking skills and international perspective. Adhering to the principle of "language as the foundation, science and technology as the characteristics, and region studies as the brand," the department promotes distinctive development, focuses on the improvement of talent cultivation, and explores partnerships with enterprises to establish internship and practical education bases. It has signed school-enterprise cooperation agreements with Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroën Automobile Co.Ltd, Wuhan Sino-French Ecological City, Wuhan French Alliance, Wuhan Transn Translation Company, and iFLYTEK Co. Ltd., gradually establishing practice-oriented internship bases characterized by industry-university-research cooperation and open-sharing mechanism.
